What this means for us

We’ll minimise the impact of our network and operations on customers and communities by designing and maintaining a reliable energy supply. In the case of unplanned outages or planned maintenance, we aim to minimise the disruption by prioritising clear and timely communication. We’ll keep the loss of power to a minimum through effective outage planning, utilising innovative monitoring technology and, where essential, we can offer support such as generation. On the ground, we aim to minimise any visual, noise, and environmental impacts on our communities.

How we deliver on our promise

Mobile Hybrid Stand Alone Power Systems

Our portable battery units ensure a dependable power supply, while providing backup during outages. By cutting emissions and lowering diesel usage, they also contribute to our commitment to delivering sustainable and resilient energy solutions. Using the 60kWh battery units alongside a generator may reduce up to 80% of diesel used during a typical outage.

Gas network surveying

We focus on a resilient energy network, using robust asset management and innovation to enhance reliability. For our gas network, this means we survey our pipelines at least every five years, inspecting main pipelines, service lines, and gas meters. Our crews use high-tech vehicles, gas detectors and perform visual inspections, so you may see them in your neighbourhood.

Mobile substation keeps customers connected

Our mobile substation enables us to keep our customers' power on while we work. It allows us to bypass zone substations during large, planned maintenance and upgrades, which means the power stays on for customers as no planned outages are required to allow the work to go ahead. This innovative solution can also be deployed in the event of major unplanned substation faults.

What this means for you

  • Reliable power supply: We focus on a resilient energy network to ensure continuous power as much as possible. Robust asset management and innovation enhance reliability and reduce future maintenance needs.

  • Minimised and shorter down-times: Through real-time monitoring, automation, and advanced vegetation management, we enhance network efficiency, improve fault detection, and support faster restorations. We anticipate disruptions, respond quickly, and implement effective recovery plans to minimise the frequency and duration of outages.

  • Transparent outage communications: We notify all customers in advance about scheduled outages through emails, text messages, or flyer distribution. During both planned and unplanned outages, we ensure customers receive clear and timely updates through relevant channels, including our digital outage map, which provides real-time information and updates on status and expected resolution times.

  • Generation: During outages, we can provide temporary power generation for schools and communities, ensuring essential services continue with minimal disruption.

  • Low impact network: We minimise visual and environmental impact through thoughtful asset placement, including feasible underground installations and aesthetic solutions. We adopt sustainable practices like replanting trees, minimising toxic chemicals, and ensuring responsible disposal of equipment.
